Power of Gratitude

Gratitude is a powerful force for good. When we focus on what we're grateful for we bring more of the good things into our lives. I challenge you to add your statements of gratitude to this blog. What positive things can come from this? Let's find out!

Grateful for Car Troubles

What? Is Michelle nuts? She's grateful for car troubles?

OK, let me explain before you have me committed! Today I discovered that after I turned off my car I couldn't get the key out of the ignition. I was parked outside of the dance studio where I was about to take a dance lesson, so I used my spare key to lock the door, keys still firmly in the ignition.

After my lesson I headed straight to the dealership's service center, where I've had my car repaired since I got it in 1999 (I really love my car and it has been a very reliable vehicle). The woman who took my "order" couldn't get the key out at first, but finally she was able to wiggle it free. Then she put the key back in and she couldn't get the car started. Yikes!

I am grateful for the fact that it was still early enough on a Friday afternoon to get the still running car to the service center. I am grateful that I had enough presence of mind to take it straight there instead of waiting to see what might happen. I am grateful that I didn't have to have the car towed there! I'm also grateful that my dealership has a courtesy shuttle service and they were able to get me home without my having to find a ride. See where I'm going with this?

Less than two hours later I got a call saying the car was ready. I went ahead and asked them to do any service that was due, so I am grateful that I didn't have to return a second time for the regular maintenance (I was planning to do the maintenance early next week, actually). It turns out it wasn't an ignition problem. It was a worn out key! Overall, I am very pleased that this happened today instead of next week when I plan to travel over 400 miles to visit my grandmother for Thanksgiving!

What are you grateful for today? Michelle

Grateful for De-Cluttering

My Mom said recently, "You are an American. You collect stuff." It seems that I just got rid of so much stuff, yet I still have too much stuff! How does this happen? When I was in college, all of my worldly possessions would fit in my tiny Toyota Tercel hatchback.

Ah, elusive simplicity! My late husband used to say, "The Indians didn't have this much paperwork. They used smoke signals." He too, wanted to simplify our lives. Because I'm in the process of moving across the country, I'm once again faced with the task of "downsizing." The first time, shortly after my husband died, it was a daunting task. I spent 9 months trying to get rid of stuff we had collected, both separately and together, over several decades.

This is the second time to reassess and scale down. I'm letting go of things I could not bear to part with just 15 months ago. I'm beginning to breathe easier as I see the clutter diminish. I am grateful for this shift. Michelle

Gratitude du jour

I am grateful for my ability to speak Spanish. No, I don't speak French, though I have found that if I watch a French movie (with subtitles) I can follow the dialog and recall many words from my three years of attempting to learn the language! I never learned Italian, yet I can understand a lot of the words because of my knowledge of Latin and two other Romance languages (Spanish and French, of course).

By the way, just in case you wanted to know, the word "Romance" in this case has nothing to do with the languages being "romantic." It is referring to "Roman" languages, that is, those with a Latin base. I'm grateful for that tidbit of information. I love languages!

I love being silly and creative with language, which is why I enjoy Joss Whedon's shows so much, but that's another story for another time.

What are you grateful for today? Keep focusing on your blessings! Michelle

Power of Jogging

I am grateful for the increased energy I have since I began walking/jogging just 8 days ago. I am amazed at how quickly I have been able to increase the jogging portion of my walk. I estimate I jog about a third of my entire route.

The motivation to do this is also astounding. I wake up looking forward to my routine and at the end of the day I am excited about doing it again, wondering if I could do it twice in one day. I'm still going about this slowly so I don't overdo it.

I am so full of gratitude. Wherever this motivation came from, I am thankful.

Grateful for New Adventures

Today I am grateful for my upcoming adventure. I don't think I've been very adventurous in my life, at least not the way I define adventure. I've never sky-dived, nor am I likely to. You won't find me bunjee jumping except at gunpoint (heaven forbid!).

Yet, some may see me as adventurous because I was an exchange student to Bolivia in my junior year in high school. I've been to other countries at a young age. I moved 1000 miles away from my family after I graduated from college. OK, those things may be tame in comparison to jumping over 10 helicopters on a motorcycle...(which I'm doing next week, tickets on sale now...right!)

OK, back to my point. I'm grateful for the new adventure I'm embarking on, which seems pretty adventurous to me. I'm moving to California to start a new segment of my life. I've wanted to get back to California since my family visited my relatives there when I was 11 years old. I fell in love with the ocean. My uncle had a house on the beach and I remember how wonderful it was to go to sleep hearing the waves crashing onto the shore.

Thirty years later, I'm actually moving there to begin a new life with a man who has asked me to marry him. Wow! I was blessed with a wonderful marriage to a wonderful man, my late husband. Now I am once again blessed to find a man with whom I want to share my life. I am so grateful for my life. Some of it has been incredibly painful and most of it has been full of joy.

I think that because I had a happy marriage and because I was convinced I would find happiness in marriage again, that this very thing has happened. I attracted this to me. Ask and you shall receive. I did. Thank you.

Dear Friends

I am so grateful for dear friends who have helped me during rough times. I am happy to be moving to California, yet sad to leave such friends. I am grateful for the age of technology that allows me to keep in contact through phone calls and emails.

I am grateful for future friends who I know are waiting for me in California. I am so blessed!

Gratitude for Motivation to Exercise

Today I am grateful for the motivation I have found to begin walking again. I have walked three days in a row (Since Sunday) and I feel good about it. I am walking and "floating" (a term I found for an extremely slow jog). I found I can do it for about three minutes at a time. I'm impressed, especially since I've never pushed myself to do more than a brisk walk.

My motivation came from stepping on the scale and realizing I was creeping upwards...again. I had to stop this! I refuse to buy bigger clothes, so I choose to exercise.

Grateful for my Business

My late husband was self-employed for most of his working years. When I met him I was working for the Battered Women's Shelter. I never dreamed I could be a "Therapist in Private Practice." I just figured that was for others, but not for me.

Thanks to my husband's encouragement, I began my journey into self-employement. That was in April 2001 and it became my full time endeavor in August of that year. I've made plenty of mistakes and learned a ton. I really enjoy the freedom of creating my own business.

I have transitioned my business once again to that of Relationship Coaching. I am excited about the new possibilities! I am now able to go national, and possibly international! I can help Spanish-speaking couples and individuals with their relationship difficulties, even if they live in other countries! So many things to do to prepare. How exciting!

I know my late husband is watching over me and guiding me, just as he did when he was alive. I am grateful for his encouragement and I feel it even now as I transition into this new phase in my business!

Wonderful Conscious Dating Workshop

Yesterday I held the first part of my Conscious Dating: Self-Discovery and Readiness workshop. I have 6 participants in this workshop, which will conclude next Saturday. It was so gratifying to see 6 eager minds, ready to learn about themselves! Becoming self-aware is a process. My participants were ready and willing to do the work to explore their inner minds.

I am grateful to be a Relationship Coach. I am grateful to be able to help people to become Conscious Daters and eventually Conscious Maters! I am also grateful that the work I do keeps me learning about myself.

Self-growth work never ends. It's hard to believe that being a Relationship Coach is actually a "job" because it can be so much fun when I see the progress my clients make. I am grateful for my ability to make a living doing what I love to do, which is helping others in their self-growth process so they can create the life that brings them joy!

Gratitude for November 2008

Today I am grateful for the love and support I have received since my husband died in August 2007. Without my support network of family and friends, some of whom made themselves available at all hours, I would not have been able to make such progress towards healing and re-entering into my life.

Thank you so much for your love and support! You know who you are and you are my treasures!

With love, Michelle

Special Coaching Rates for the New Year

I want to announce a big change in my life: I am moving to Huntington Beach, California in December 2008! As such, I will change my business from Counseling and Coaching to strictly Relationship Coaching.

Most of my coaching will be done by phone (unless you live in the area). I am very excited about this, as it allows me to provide Relationship Coaching to people all over the world. I will offer both Individual/Couples Coaching and Group Coaching for Relationship Success.

If you are ready to begin Relationship Coaching and would like to jump on board beginning in 2009, I am going to offer substantially lower rates for the first of the year for people who sign up by the end of December 2008. For those of you who have completed the Conscious Dating: Readiness workshop, I can offer a Conscious Dating: Attraction group to help you (and to help each other) in the next step of your dating journey.

Times and dates for the small group coaching will be determined based on the participants schedules. Of course, for Individuals/Couples, I will be available by appointment and I am flexible.

My regular price for 1:1 Coaching (both individual and couple) is $400 per month for three ninety minute sessions. You get email access to me as I want to know your progress with your homework during the times between sessions. Yes, it is intense learning and intense, but fun growth work. If you decide to work with me and sign up before December 31, 2008, you will receive these sessions at $300 per month for your first 3 months.

Regular group coaching is $135 per month for individuals and $185 for couples. Group work will be done with no more than 6 to 8 people, or 3 to 4 couples. The special rates for these sessions will be $100 per person and $150 per month per couple for the first 3 months.

If you have questions about the benefits of Relationship Coaching, please email me (my email will remain the same after I move). I would love to have the honor of working with you on your relationship goals. Your relationship deserves to blossom and thrive.

Michelle
